Get a grip on your fear of driving anxiety through taking time to relax. I know that relaxing in today's busy world is easier said than done, but I hope the following seven suggestions will help you develop or come up with your own ways to relax.

1. Breathing: You'll find that when you are tense, your breathing will be shallow. It is true that the more tense we are, the less we breathe. Take the time to breathe deeply using your abdomen and you'll sense a tremendous difference in how you feel. The best thing is, you'll be able to deep breathe anyplace, anytime, even while driving.

2. Think Happy Thoughts: This will likely seem slightly childlike, but science agrees our thoughts create our reality. Even athletes visualize the way they want to perform. So do some visualizing, do some daydreaming, give thanks, be positive, and express nice things to yourself.

3. Reduce Stimuli: What astounding number of electronic devices happen to be bombarding you every single day? How noisy is your world? Do your body, mind, and soul a big favor and minimize the input and sensory excess by turning things off for a short time every day.

4. Return to Nature: Should you be having difficulty relaxing in the concrete jungle, then take the time to retreat to the mountains, a park, a garden, or a lake. Get some good fresh air (and don't forget to deep breathe that fresh air). Even listening to unique sounds such as a babbling brook can be quite relaxing.

5. Yoga or Tai Chi: Your body and mind will each reap the benefits of doing either of these types of exercise. They happen to be wonderful ancient methods with great mental and physical advantages. Yoga's benefits include flexibility, strength, muscle tone, pain prevention, better breathing, mental peace, and stress reduction. Tai Chi uses motion that's synchronized with breathing to help you achieve a feeling of inner calm. I know I can't tie myself in a knot, and so I do Tai Chi and it truly is very relaxing.

6. Act Like a Kid: This is probably the toughest thing for me to do simply because I'm so serious most of the time. Consider selecting a day two times a month to stay in your pj's and watch cartoons or even funny videos right up until early afternoon. What about finger painting or even drawing on the driveway using sidewalk chalk?

7. Begin a Hobby: If you find a hobby that you simply feel you must do perfectly and get it right the very first time, then forget it. This should really be something you'll enjoy doing, that won't be demanding of perfection, which actually helps you unwind. So enjoy it!
